In my travel bag…

As someone that travels extensively internationally and tries not to check a bag, I always have several essential items in my travel bag.

Slip Eye Mask - Most of my flights to Europe and South America are overnight so having a good eye mask is key to getting sleep on the flight. While the airline does provide a basic cotton mask, not only is this silk mask is cushiony and feels like heaven, but it also has pockets to accommodate my eyelash extensions and prevent them from getting crushed.

Side note: I spent the first forty years of my life traveling without a sleep aid because I thought it was unnatural, and was maybe worried about getting addicted, but since I started taking a single unisom pill as soon as I board a flight, my life has been changed. Sometimes the red eye is at 7 pm and only 6 hours long, but with unisom I’m able to fall asleep much earlier than I normally would. It only lasts about 6 hours and doesn’t have any drag (another one of my fears). It is over-the-counter and non habit-forming. I now feel like a fool for not doing this sooner.

Art of Tea Matcha Shaker & Matcha Sticks & Zulay Frother - My morning routine consists of getting up and making a matcha latte first thing. It is important to keep up with my routines as much as possible while traveling, and this shaker does a great job standing in for my match whisk and comes with single use travel size sticks of matcha (of the highest ceremonial quality). The Art of Tea is a wonderful company (they have supported my nonprofits through generous product donations) that I am happy to support. I also bring along my frother, which is battery powered, super compact, and does as good a job frothing as any of the fancy machines. This is the same frother that I use at home.

Bala Bangles - Another important part of my morning routine is working out. I always try to book a hotel with a gym, but there are times when that is not possible. For those occasions, I have my bala bangles, 1 pound weights that can be worn on your wrists or ankles. Katie Austin has some great workouts for both. Not only are these compact and easy to travel with, but they’re also pretty cute.

Frownies - I panicked when I started to see 11’s forming between my eyes and immediately researched the best products to use to prevent this from happening. Frownies are “patches for wrinkles on the face that act similarly as a splint or cast to help hold the skin relaxed and flat.” They are super easy to use - just wet and stick - and will save you from needing botox! I don’t think that these will undo any wrinkles, but they can certainly help prevent them by mimicking botox and freezing your face where the patches are while you sleep.

Peace out Acne Spots - These are one of the best beauty products I have ever encountered, and bonus points that they are super easy to travel with. Unlike gels and creams, they do not dry out the skin and make things worse than they were to begin with. These things are little miracle workers; put one on overnight and you’ll see results by the morning. Just trust me.

Eagle Creek Packing Cubes - Everyone asks me how I can possibly take such extended trips without checking a bag. The answer is packing cubes. Not only do they keep you organized, they offer compression and make it easy to unpack when you get to your destination (just drop a cube into a drawer and you’re done!).
