Fry Board - A quick and easy party trick that is sure to delight
I hosted a Tonys party this year and wanted to do something fun and unique but wanted it be something easy to prep for. I came across a fry board on instagram and was instantly inspired! Who doesn’t love fries?
The hardest part of prep was finding the right board. I ordered a few from amazon that turned out to be too small for what I was trying to do, finally landing on this one with these ceramic dipping plates and these aluminum sauce cups for the sauces. It was the perfect size and enabled me to display six different types of fries. There is a light coating on the board itself, so it was not stained or damaged from the grease from the fries.
The only hiccup was that people kept eating fries off the board before I was done making all the different types of fries. It was great that they were enjoying the fries so much, but I was worried that they’d eat up an entire type of fry before I had the opportunity to display all of them together. I had to yell at people to stop eating lol. Not ideal. Next time I wouldn’t place anything on the board until all the fries are ready.
I wanted the fries to be distinctly different for visuals of the board, and landed on:
Cascadian Farm French Fries, Straight Cut, Organic
Ore-Ida Crispy Golden Crispy Crowns (this was a replacement for tater tots because they were not available and are like a flat tater tot)
Ore-Ida Golden Shoestrings French Fries Frozen Potatoes Food Snacks
Ore-Ida Golden Thick Cut Steak French Fries Fried Food Snacks Frozen Potatoes
Arby's Curly Fries, Seasoned
Ore-Ida Golden Waffle French Fries Fried Snacks Frozen Food Potatoes
The curly fries and waffle fries were by far the most popular, and the organic ones the least popular. Not surprising, since they didn’t crisp up as well as the others. Next time I’d stick with Ore-Ida and Arby’s.
For dipping sauces, I opted for Heinz tomato ketchup, Trader Joes’ truffle aioli, Mike’s hot honey, and Trader Joes’ garlic dip spread (which, by the way, is a duplicate of the Zankou Chicken garlic spread and is to die for). The spreads are as much for aesthetics as for dipping, and I wanted a variety of sauces that would add different color and flair to my board.
All in all the fry board was a huge hit, and something I highly recommend doing if it you want something easy and inexpensive that is sure to impress!
